Care for Our Common Home

Care for Our Common Home

BECOME DISCIPLES OF CHRIST.
“LOVE ONE ANOTHER. AS I HAVE LOVED YOU, SO YOU MUST LOVE ONE ANOTHER. BY THIS EVERYONE WILL KNOW THAT YOU ARE MY DISCIPLES” (JOHN 13:34).
"THE LORD GOD THEN TOOK THE MAN AND SETTLED HIM IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN, TO CULTIVATE AND CARE FOR IT." (GENESIS 2:15)
"AND THE KING WILL SAY TO THEM IN REPLY, 'AMEN, I SAY TO YOU, WHATEVER YOU DID FOR ONE OF THESE LEAST BROTHERS OF MINE, YOU DID FOR ME.'” (MAT 25:40)

Let us always strive to treat one another with dignity and respect as all are made in the image of our Creator.

We are ALL called to be good stewards of the environment. The suffering state of our world's ecosystem affects the poorest of our neighbors the worst; and they are the ones who have impacted the global environment the least.

Small acts can go a long way in this effort to care for creation. Simply reducing and properly managing your waste can positively impact the environment and promote a healthy and beautiful community in which we live, work, and play.

The Diocese of San Diego has developed a Creation Care Action Plan. As a result, individuals, parishes and schools are invited to carry out concrete steps to care for the environment and our vulnerable neighbors.

An urgent call to love mankind and our world

Plant a Free Tree! Join the Campaign!

An easy way to support your neighborhood's environment.

  • The Diocesan tree planting campaign is free for one and possibly two trees per resident. Requests for three or more must be sent to the campaign lead and are currently intended for schools or parishes but exceptions will be considered.  Recipients are responsible for planting and care of their trees.

  • Contact David Larom via email or call (619) 876-8794 to participate.

  • The City of San Diego also has a free tree program that is restricted to the public right-of-way, but can be used by residents to enhance the general area near their homes. Visit their website for more information.

It is time for action, and the Vatican has great initiatives on how to do so!

A Prayer From Pope Francis:

“All powerful God, You are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one. Oh God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of the earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.”  Laudato Si (178)
